Nasal Polyp
Nasal polyps are hyperplastic, benign, inflammatory growths that arise from the sinus mucosa and are commonly found in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).
Description:
Nasal polys are common in young adults. Nasal polyps are painless growths in the nose or sinuses that are not cancerous. Small nasal polyps might not cause symptoms. Larger growths, or groups of nasal polyps, can block the nose. They can cause breathing problems, anosmia, and infections.
Cause:
The exact cause of nasal polyps remains unknown, and the development of nasal polyps is influenced by various factors, including existing health conditions like asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinus infections or sinusitis, cyst fibrosis, hypersensitivity to certain NSAIDs, and genetics.
Symptoms:
Small polyps in the nose may not present with any symptoms. However, if they develop, one may experience symptoms like nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, headaches, loss of taste and smell, nosebleeds, postnasal drip, sinus pressure, and snoring. Larger polyps can block nasal passages, leading to asthma, sinus infections, sleep disorders, and difficulty breathing.
