Traditionally, the term "steam therapy" refers only to a steam bath; however, in Ayurveda, "steam" refers to more than just a daily practice or treatment. Swedanam (Steam) therapy reduces pain, stiffness, heaviness, coldness, and promotes sweating.Nadiswedan is a type of steam in which steam comes from tube. Nadi sweda is Ekanga sweda in which steam is provided to the small affected region.
Drugs used for Nadi swedana are derived from leaves, root, flowers and barks of medicated plants. These are then mixed with kanji,(Rice gruel) milk, various type of salts, sesame etc. The Mixture is then heated and brought to boil in a vessel which is attached to a rubber tube. After boiling the vapour is passed through a tube. Nadiswedan is used in vataja dosha diseases like palsy, hemiplegia, paraplegia, etc. Useful in Muscular pain, joint pain, lower back pain, sciatica, nerve compressions, frozen shoulder, stiffness etc.
How Does Nadi Swedanam Work?

Dhanya Swedanam: The steam is produced using a mixture of grains or pulses like Horse gram, fenugreek which have pain-relieving properties
Kashaya swedanam : The pre prepared decoction of herbs are mixed with water and boiled to produce steam. Dasamoola sweda is one of its kind.
