Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder OCD is a long-term mental health illness characterized by compulsive behaviors, obsessions, or both.
Description:
A mental health problem known as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by troubling, invasive, and compulsive thoughts. These may cause someone to engage in undesired, compulsive bodily behaviors, including constantly checking for danger or avoiding germs. With OCD, the brain becomes fixated on a single idea or impulse, much like a needle becoming stuck on an old record. For instance, if you're afraid of setting your house on fire, you could check the stove 20 times to make sure it's truly off, or you might wash your hands until they're completely clean out of concern for germs. These repetitious activities don't make you feel good, but they could temporarily reduce the uneasiness brought on by the intrusive thoughts.
Cause:
Genes influence whether a person develops OCD, as they do with many other medical illnesses. OCD therefore frequently runs in families. Different areas of the brain's chemistry, structure, and activity can all be influenced by genes.
Symptoms:
OCD causes these distressing ideas to arise repeatedly. Thoughts can be about anything, but for many OCD sufferers, they are typically related to: germs, harm, injury, or illness things that appear rude, unpleasant, or incorrect whether or not things are straight, even, or arranged exactly as they "should" be colors or numbers that appear unlucky, unsavory, or possess a particular significance whether or not something could come true
