Chronic Constipation

Difficult and incomplete stools are symptoms of constipation. Because they will be dry and hard, the stools might take longer to pass. This can occur together with painful bowel movements, fullness, and bloating in the stomach and abdominal pain. When this persists for several weeks or more, it is referred to as chronic constipation.

Description:

Primary constipation is common due to diet and lifestyle choices while secondary constipation is more serious and triggered by hormonal issues like hypothyroidism colorectal cancer intestinal obstruction gluten intolerance and diabetes causing abdominal pain and severe bloating.

Cause:

Constipation is caused by lifestyle factors such as not drinking enough fluids, eating enough dietary fiber, exercising regularly, or using the toilet. Some medicines such as opioid pain relievers and problems with pelvic floor muscle blockages in the colon or rectum or tumors can also cause constipation.

Symptom:

Constipation is characterised by the following symptoms: Not having three bowel movements per week  Straining when passing stool  Passing less stool than usual Lumpy dry or hard stool Other signs and symptoms include: Abdominal pain and cramping, bloating, nausea, and loss of appetite
