Sleeping Problem

Sleeping is something we all need, just like eating, drinking, and breathing. It’s super important for keeping us healthy and feeling good throughout our lives. While missing a few nights of sleep isn’t usually a big deal, consistently not getting enough sleep can mess with our daily lives. When someone doesn’t sleep enough, we say they’re sleep-deprived, and it’s also called "sleep deprivation," "sleeplessness," or "sleep inefficiency."

Today, many people struggle with sleepless nights, disturbed sleep, or waking up tired. Stress, irregular routines, late-night screen use, heavy meals, and anxiety are some of the common reasons behind poor sleep.

The sleeplessness doesn't just cause fatigue — it can lower immunity, disturb digestion, affect memory, and even lead to lifestyle disorders. Longer-term sleep problems can affect our relationships and social life, and leave us feeling tired all the time, eating more and not able to do daily tasks.

A whole bunch of things can impact how well we catch some Z's, like our current health, what we went through growing up, and even our personalities.   But often, it’s lousy sleep habits or poor sleep hygiene that mess things up. Not taking time to chill or unwind before hitting the hay can really mess with our sleep quality. Creating a relaxing bedtime routine and tackling stress can help a ton when it comes to getting better sleep.

Ayurveda identifies sleep (Nidra) as one of the three pillars of health, along with food (Ahara) and lifestyle (Brahmacharya). When sleep is disturbed, the body and mind lose their natural balance.

so when there is an imbalance in the dosha in your body. If the Vata dosa is imbalanced, it often causes restlessness and difficulty falling asleep. Pitta imbalance may lead to waking up at night with irritability or excessive dreams. Kapha imbalance may cause oversleeping, yet still feeling heavy and dull.

Ayurveda helps in such a way to restore the balance of both mind and body through the following measures

  • Dinacharya (routine): Going to bed at the same time every night helps the body reset its circadian rhythm

  • Abhyanga (oil massage): A warm oil massage before bath or bedtime calms the nervous system.

  • Paadhabhaygam at bedtime, rubbing oil or ghee on your feet, helps calm your nervous system

  • Shirodhara: A stream of warm oil poured on the forehead deeply relaxes the mind and promotes sound sleep.

  • Diet & lifestyle: Light, warm, and sattvic food in the evening and reducing late-night gadget use restores balance

.Naturopathy offers some easy and natural ways to help you sleep better. Things like warm foot baths can really get your body ready to relax. Plus, yoga and breathing exercises, even simple ones, can help kick stress to the curb and calm your mind. Relaxation techniques, like guided meditation and mindfulness, are great for quieting your thoughts before bedtime.
