Cervical erosion is a condition where squamous epithelium of the ectocervix is replaced by columnar epithelium which is continuous with the endocervix.
Cervix has different types of cells in the outside (vaginal portion) than it does on the inside (cervical canal). Normally, columnar epithelium cells are present inside of the cervix whereas squamous epithelial cells are present outside the cell. When the columnar cells appear on the outside of the cervix, they get in contact with the squamous cells and form a transformation zone. It appears as a red inflamed patch at the neck of the cervix.
Sign & Symptoms of Cervical Erosion
These include,
Dyspareunia
Bleeding during coitus.
Post coital bleeding.
Light discharge of mucus from vagina.
Spotting between periods.
Diagnosis & Lab Investigatiion
We diagnose cervical erosion through :
Routine Pelvic examination.
Pap smear test.
Test for HPV.
Colposcopy and,
Biopsy
It is important to diagnose it differentially from Chlamydia infection and cervical cancer.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Cervical Erosion
Cervical erosion and cervical fibroids are conditions that don’t have direct correlation to Ayurveda yet classics got references to similar conditions. Hence, Ayurveda points out Cervical erosion as Karnini Yoni vyapad. From the word Karnini, acarya refers to the protuberance of flesh.
